5Kate

I survived the 5K!

It was definitely a much harder (i.e. hillier) course than the last race 3 years ago (then again, pretty much anything would be hillier than Kelly Drive). Still, it was not nearly as awful as I'd feared. I probably pushed a little too hard with the pacing because of the race excitement and the burning desire to pass at least a few (old, slow) people. I had a hard time regulating my breathing too and had to shut off the iPod a couple of times just to get my breath back in sync. I paid for my initial energy burst about a half-mile before the finish where we had a long, gradual uphill stretch. At this point I became convinced that cardiac arrest/projectile vomiting was imminent, and ended up having to walk a minute or two. Still, I made it in under 39 minutes, which for me is excellent. So all in all, a good day.

My big run is this Saturday. Can't wait to be done with it.
