From vacation, that is. I'm enjoying my creature comforts again, but missing Lake Winnepesaukee big time. After a childhood in which the primary non-chlorinated bodies of water I swam in were polluted, rocky Long Island Sound, freezing Atlantic Ocean in Maine, or murky inland Connecticut lakes, I am now so spoiled by the privilege of swimming and paddling in that lovely clear body of water. I love that lake so much, I don't even want to go in swimming pools anymore (not that I have one at my disposal). And the lake was the perfect temperature. Refreshing but not icy.
Note to self: leaving at 5AM for an 8-hour drive results in better-behaved children in the backseat than leaving for the same trip at 3PM.
Also, this is turning into the week of shorn sheep around here. George has finally reached such an extreme hair length that he must be shaved down (so much for looking like a furry but goofily adorable white poodle). As of Wednesday, he will look like an emaciated spindly-legged freak, but he'll be a lot cooler.
I too am in desperate need of both a trim and highlights, and will be receiving both soon. This seems especially urgent now that I've discovered a small cluster of gray hairs in the vicinity of my usual part.
And Melrose and Mr. Magoo were taken to the Hair Cuttery today for a badly needed trim (for her) and a first haircut (for him). I've been very conflicted over getting my sweet baby's hair cut, considering he barely had any hair until about a year ago, and in recent months it has gotten a little long but this length resulted in adorable little duck-tail curls all around the sides and back. DH, having been a child during the 70s, had no issues with long-ish hair on little boys. But today I decided the time had come, now that the kid is sleeping in a big-boy bed and talking back (and is going to have to pose in his grandparents' Christmas-card photo in a few weeks). Magoo couldn't have been better behaved - no tears, no tantrums, no big-chair phobia. He walked out with a cute little-boy haircut, a lollipop, an envelope of clippings for Mommy to weep over in the future, and a certificate commemorating his graduation from babyhood. *sigh*
In other random news, I am watching CNN and they just showed this video involving Madonna and John McCain. Awesome.
